He Speaks to Me Everywhere

Sunday Oct 19, 2008

This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
His hand the wonders wrought.

This is my Father’s world, the birds their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white, declare their Maker’s praise.
This is my Father’s world: He shines in all that’s fair;
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass;
He speaks to me everywhere.

This is my Father’s world. O let me ne’er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world: the battle is not done:

Jesus Who died shall be satisfied,
And earth and Heav’n be one.

This is my Father’s world, dreaming, I see His face.
I ope my eyes, and in glad surprise cry, “The Lord is in this place.”
This is my Father’s world, from the shining courts above,
The Beloved One, His Only Son,
Came—a pledge of deathless love.

This is my Father’s world, should my heart be ever sad?
The lord is King—let the heavens ring. God reigns—let the earth be glad.
This is my Father’s world. Now closer to Heaven bound,
For dear to God is the earth Christ trod.
No place but is holy ground.

This is my Father’s world. I walk a desert lone.
In a bush ablaze to my wondering gaze God makes His glory known.
This is my Father’s world, a wanderer I may roam
Whate’er my lot, it matters not,
My heart is still at home.

– Maltbie D. Babcock / Franklin Sheppard

The other night my nine-year-old called me over to the couch, hymnal in hand, and sang to me.

Hi there TG :-) I’ve seen you on Somber and Dull as well. Nice to meet you, and read a little about you. You didn’t happen to know Mel and Cindy Pike in Ukraine, did you? Probably not, but they are MTW missionaries we support, though not where you were. It’s amazing how the Spirit moves us to pray and worship, isn’t it? These are words to cling to!

That’s my favorite verse of that hymn as well. <3

I was so excited to see this today. I’ve found a new church to join, and this was the first hymm we sang. It felt like coming home, as our ’soon to be’ former church stopped using these wonderful, traditional hymms, in favor of modern ones with which I’m not familiar.

See “This is my Father’s world” Posted here today was just a wonderful sign to me that I’m heading in the right direction. :grin:

A child ministering to his momma–what a beautiful thing!

We’re teaching this hymn (well, the first verse at least..) to the 3-5 yr olds at our church and I’ve been struck anew at how rich the words are.

Amen: God is the ruler yet!

I’ve known the first 3 verses for years… Why don’t “they” ever put all the verses in the hymnal?? The later 3 are good! Thanks for sharing!!

This hymn is a long time favorite, but I’ve never come across the last three verses. They are awesome! Now I like that hymn even more.
