Advent Calendars

Thursday Dec 4, 2008

As I shared before we are using a wooden calendar as part of our daily Advent time. I printed out these verses (page 1, page 2), and have them behind each door, along with yummy candy. (Last year, we also had fun activities hidden behind some of the doors.)  Part of the boys’ morning routine is singing our Advent hymn together, reading the verses together, and enjoying the candy.

(My friend Allison pointed out that Target has their wooden calendars on sale right now!)

Thanks for the links to the verses. What a great resource.

Well, I am really an Advent novice! I printed out the verses. But if Advent started on November 30, I think these verses only take me to December 22. Then what should I do?

Wow,
That is so cool. What a great way to teach your kids truth and have fun doing it at the same time. You’re probably the greatest mom ever.

Ana, I have candy in each box, and I agree it is weird to have it end on the 22nd. In my mil’s Advent calendar, I put a little angel ornament. For the kids, we’ll just have the candy.

Thanks, Tom *grin* I’ve had a less-than-stellar-mom-day. So what you wrote is encouraging.

Abbie and Laura, isn’t it fun to have these sorts of routines with our kids?

TG, just wanted you to know that I got my Advent calendar at Target on sale and we’ve been reading our daily Scriptures. My 3 year old especially loves “her” scroll. She wants to sleep with her scroll. Thanks for being so thoughtful!

I found these and thought I’d pass it along. Heavy duty vinyl and non-toxic, perfect for kids.
