Note to Swamphopper:
But caffeine is supposed to help migraines, isn't it?

I have a history of weird, knock-me-down migraines that seem to occur most often when I am in habitual consumption of caffeine. I've noticed that during seasons in my life where I've just not drunk caffeinated beverages, I've not had the migraines.
After my last knock-me-on-the-ground experience with a magraine, I decided I'd skip caffeine for awhile to see it would help. So far it has, but then again, maybe it's just all in my head.
Maybe what I really need is to be drinking MORE coffee so that my body never experiences a downer, which may be what triggers the migraine, hmmm...
When Missy brews her own cups, it is quite torturous to endure the aroma and not partake. But right now the memory of my last grovel-in-the-carpet-while-holding-my-head experience surpercedes my craving for a cup. Time has a way, though, of erasing painful memories. Besides, I guess I could buy some de-caf, but that's kind of like eating artificial chocolate, right?

Yikes! I'm really sorry--both about the migraines and the no-coffee.
I was reading the box of Excedrine Migraine just a few days ago. It had a list of warning signs that indicated that you should call your doctor. Included was this advice: Call your doctor if this is the worst headache of your life.
Every migraine I've had has been the worst headache of my life! (Of course, I'm not afflicted with them regularly--those who are may notice degrees of horribleness. . .)
Since the glass carafe of our french press broke the other day (and we ran out of coffee the same day!) I've been drinking some Tension Tamer Tea sent from the States. I love the stuff. And then I "stretch" it by adding a chammomile tea to the second cup.
Honestly, though, it's not as satisfying as coffee.

caffeine IS supposed to aid in relieving the tension of a headache - however, to rehydrate, it takes one glass of water to boost you back to the level you were before the coffee... So after a few cups o joe - you are working toward a headache due to dehydration... just some personal findings. :)

inaz,
Our French Press carafe broke this week and we ran out of coffee, so while Hubby was in Yalta, I've been drinking jusr herbal teas.
I had a smallish caffiene-withdrawl headache the whole time. I've been debating going off coffee or not.
I decided not. *g*
But I really do need to drink more water.

I've put my fancy coffee pot away myself... In the pantry for a few weeks now. yep. now i perculate! (sp?) It's my old camping perculator, and I love waking up in the am to the gurgling sound... Takes a little longer, but the taste is worth it. Much fuller coffee experience - and I love it!!!

I think caffeine is one of those tricky things. In some people it causes migraines, in others (like my daughter) it alleviates them. So much so, for her, that we know send her to school each day with one of those new 6 oz sodas with caffeine. It beats repeated trips to the nurses office and stronger, vasodilator migraine meds.
