What Kind of Homeschooler?

Salvador Dali Melting clocks are not a problem in
your reality. You are an unschooler. You will
tolerate a textbook, but only as a last resort.
Mud is your friend. You prefer hands-on
everything. If your school had an anthem, it
would be Don't Worry, Be Happy. Visit my blog:
What Type of Homeschooler Are You?
brought to you by Quizilla
Oh yes, LOTS of mud. Lots of books, reading aloud, and relaxed schooling. I enjoy pulling ideas and educational theories together for the boys, and our schedule is very loose. But my truly unschooling friends would think I'm too schoolish. *g*

I took the quiz and also came up as a Dali... now i'm humming! *sisters - sisters... *

I'm not a homeschooler, but I took the quiz anyway, and came up with Charlotte Mason, which is actually probably not too far from the truth. Though I don't mind mud myself...

I don't homeschool yet but I scored a Dali as well. Some of the choices in the quizz were way to structured for me.
When's a good age to start homeschooling anyway? I've got a 3 year old and an almost 2 year old. Very energetic and way to smart for their own good. (One of them locked me out of the house this week.) Any suggestions on what to do with them?

I was Mr. Potato Head - and it's really true!!

Great quiz!
I came out as Abraham Lincoln. I don't know why! That was a cute quiz though. Some of the choices had me laughing...she's certainly seen the real true homes of real true homeschoolers.

I too came out Abe Lincoln/Charlotte Mason, but I'd imagine our homeschool will someday be a crazy combination like Charlotte Mason, Mr. Potato Head, and Galileo.
We shall see, I suppose, Lord willing.

It's interesting to hear how y'all answered. This seems to be one of the most realistic quizzes I've taken.
I had trouble answering some of the questions--in part because our homeschooling morphs easily. The second time I took it, it was the Abe Lincoln/Charlotte Mason result. I really love the ideas in Classical Education and used trivium ideas when h/sing John's little brother. But we're really more eclectic than that now.
Samantha, we started "homeschooling" when the boys were really young because it helped provide structure to our day. But I'm very much anti-little-kids-sitting-still-for-long-periods-of-time. Eventually I'm going to blog about our "list" approach to early home schooling, but basically I would make up lists of things I wanted to do with the kids/toys we had, by category (messy, table, outside, alphabet, noisy, quiet, etc.) I kept these lists on the fridge and then would rotate through active/quiet activities during the day.
With little ones we also had a waldorfian-type morning circle time, with prayer, singing hymns, poetry, and reading Bible stories--and when they were a little older, adding catechism and Bible memory.
Just some ideas!
More later. . .

It really nailed me -- and the questions were so funny -- they just typify different styles so well!
Potato Head, BTW. :-)

I figured I'd've gotten Potato Head myself, but I got Dali. Must have been the "What time do you get in the morning?" question. For the record, I do not use an alarm clock as I believe it is the invention of the Devil.
;-)

Um, "up" - that should have said, "What time do you get UP in the morning." I'm still druggy. :-p
Posted by: Kelly at June 24, 2004 05:10 AM
*grin*
I think that's the one that put me over the Dali edge, too, Kelly. With nursing babies and then toddlers, I found it very efficient to sleep when the babies sleep and then wake up when they need nursing. Even without a nursling, I wake up by having preschoolers crawl in bed in the morning to cuddle.

LOL! I am very flattered that you all enjoyed my silly quiz. Have you seen my other quizzes -- What Type of Learning Style Are You? -- one for adults and another designed to do with your children. Keep checking my blog/website... there's always more fun in the works!
