Prayer for Ukraine
Before this evening's Yushchenko speech, preachers came to the camp and prayed for the activists.
This is a song we regularly sing in church, "A Prayer for Ukraine". Please continue in your prayers for Ukraine and her people, and a peaceful and just resolution.
And thanks to Maureen, here it is in English.
A Prayer for Ukraine
My prayer does not go unheard,
To you, our incense rises.
And my heart is heard without difficulty
In strange lands, in Your heavenly temple.God, I pray for Ukraine,
God, I pray to you for its people.
May You forgive them,
May You save them,
And may Your favor on us rest.
God, I know
That You will be with us.
In Your temples under heaven
Joy and peace You're giving,
Life to the people You're showing,
Us in the Book of Life You've written! In Your Living Glory,
You to the people have given power,
So that the people all pray to God
Who in Christ was reconciled to us.

How is this as a translation of "A Prayer for Ukraine"? I don't actually have a Ukrainian
dictionary, I'm afraid, so I had to make a lot of guesses.

You to the people have given power,
So that the people all pray to God
Who in Christ was reconciled to us.
The Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus was on a tour of the US from August-October and sang the
"Prayer for Ukraine" when they were on tour. The words they have are:The One and Mighty God, save our Ukraine
Send the light of freedom to our land
Enlighten us wit the light of knowledge and truth
Grow us, our God, in clear love to our land.
O Lord, we pray to You to save our Ukraine!
Turn all Your mercy and kindness to our people.
Give to our people the freedom, happy fate,
Peace and happiness for long, long life!I don't know if there is more than one "Prayer for Ukraine", but this is what they sang in Albuquerque, NM

Thanks, Maureen! I understand what I'm singing, but I can't quite translate. That looks right (Hubby said some of the verbs might be in a different tense, but. . .)
David, when things are sung in different languages they often translate the sentiment rather as the KSOC did, rather than a more direct translation.

Here is how I would translate this Ukrainian national hit of the last several years. Much like “I can only Imagine” in the US.
The song was first written as a graduation project of a young lady from the musical conservatory in Kiev, and a lead sinner of the group Rema. This group was affiliated with a church in Obolon district of Kiev, which I helped organize in 1993.
Prayer For UkraineMay my prayer go
To you like the aroma of incense
And the heart drawn without ceasing
Into your glorious heavenly templeGod, I pray for Ukraine
God, I pray for its people
May you forgive them
May you save them
And show us your mercyGod, I know you are going to be with us
In your temple under the heavens
You gifted us with your joy and peace
You gave your life for the people
You inscribed us in the Book of LifeIn your Living Word

You laid out the vision for life
So that all the people would pray to God
To the one who died for them on the cross
(Chorus three times)
thank you for Prayer for Ukraine....when i read the words and thought of the widows and moms there now the babbuskas, who many years ago lost husbands and sons in great wars over their homeland and beyond its borders....and recalled the statues errected...i could only imagine the emotion those words carried in song.mk

hey... This is the song that we are gonna make the headliner of the acoustic concert in few weeks. This concert will be dedicated to Ukraine and it will be held in the Nazarene Church 3 Studencheskaya street, Kiev, Ukraine.
The thing is that I lost my music for this song... searching web for it... but still nothing. If you have cords or anyone whom you know has em... please contact me.
Warm Regards,
NikitaGod Bless
