"The struggle is just starting!"

These are the things that have been announced in Kyiv in the last hour:

1. "The struggle is just starting!" declared Yushchenko.

2. In response to the announcement made today by the Central Election Commission of Ukraine that Yanukovych won the election Yushchenko calls for nation wide strike.

3. The Committee Of National Salvation, responsible for the rescue of democracy in Ukraine, has been formed.

4. Ukrainian military officers and ensigns support Yushchenko.

Ukraine is Russia, Russia is the Ukraine! The West will never never ever accept the Ukraine into its structures and the Ukraine would be wise never to rely on its support. The Ukraine must look East in the long term. However when the Ukraine should do so depends on Russia - Russia must prove that it is developing into a society worth being a part of and joining - until that moment the Ukrainians should keep the Russians waiting.

*blush* Kathy, actually I stayed up waaaaay too late the past two nights, but had kids help me nap today. We have Thanksgiving and two birthdays in the next two days, so we'll be trying to keep normal family celebrations mixed in with all of this.

Well, Fyodor, while of course their histories are very much intertwined, it is quite the overstatement to say "Ukraine is Russia." The Ukrainians I know would disagree.
