Crunchings and Munchings**

I'm crunching on some yummy corn tortilla chips and dipping them in Pace picante sauce. Tortilla chips could occasionally be found in Kyiv, but chips and salsa were one of the things I missed the most while we were there.

And, I just found out via Annie, that tomorrow is Ben&Jerry's Free Cone Day tomorrow, April 19th! Woohoo! I think we'll try to get down to St. Armand's and enjoy some ice cream as we walk around the Circle.

I know life isn't all about food, but boy, special foods are one of the things most missed when in a different country.

**Brownie points to anyone who can name the allusion.

I laughed when I read your title! I recently had the thrill of introducing my oldest to Gurgi and his comrades, so he was fresh in my mind.

I will be following your journey with interest as you re-adjust to America. We will be going home a year from now, but I'm already thinking about it and all the things I want to do and people to see. One of the things that struck me when we went home for christmas after two years over here was how friendly and informal certain people would be - like grocery cashiers and waiters. Here, while it's a very hospitable culture, there are some interactions that stay very stiff and formal - no small talk or smiles.
And oh it sure was nice to drive in America after the craziness on the roads here - especially with the motorbikes that zoom in between the cars all the time.
And then there are bagels...

Hooray for DHM and Liza! Mom B read The Book of Three to Hubby when he was small and it made such an impact on him. I finally read them a few years ago, and J8 loves them. Book 5 in that series was the first thing he asked for at the library. (Then, a book about Flying Tigers.)

Jane, it's been good but weird. I'm enjoying how NICE everyone is, too. I just called to change our car insurance from "touring insurance" (ie, keeping our account active without a car) to now cover our new minivan. *grin* You'll do fine when you return to the States. (I still can't say "coming home.")

Ben and Jerry's is just too far, so we PAID for cones at Baskin-Robbins today. They were worth it - mmmm....
