Bye-bye, Technorati!

Most everyone who blogs is familiar with technorati, and the great service they've provided the past several years in searching blogs and links. Great service, that is, until the past few months. I don't know what's going on there, but whatever it is hasn't been good. . .

Pyro-guy has lamented technorati's increasing lameness. The Rough Woodsman suggested icerocket as an imperfect alternative. (And at that time I mused that it would be great for Google to jump into this niche. . .)

And Google has met the challenge! I just found out, thanks to gid. I'm again impressed with Google's tools and innovations. We'll have to wait and see how effective it is when used regularly. Check out:

Hmmm. . . After playing around with it a bit, it doesn't quite seem to be up to the technorati-in-its-heyday level at this point.

Thanks for the feedback on Technorati. We've been putting a lot of time and energy in fixing the scalability and performance issues we had the past few months, and you should see much better cosmos results by the end of September. Is that the main problem you've had with Technorati? Or are you having other issues as well? I'd love to hear, we want to provide you with the best possible service...

Thank you for the personal reply. Performance issues--yes. Often I get the "too busy" message and no links will come up. (More often for link searches than for topic searches.) Other times, it will be days--or over a week--before links/topics show up. Perhaps this is just a sign of technorati's success. It's become relied upon by so many, that y'all are overwhelmed?

I'm not sure what it is. . . but the technorati of the past several months is a far cry from the technorati of a year ago (even with the occasional burps then.)

That said. . . I have much hope for the Google blog search potential. They have an amazing database and track record. That said, it's still potential, imo.

In support of Technorati, I have actually seen improvement in the past week or so. Much better performance and no "too busy" messages.
