A rod is a rod is a rod?
It's just a little plastic tubing. . .

I think, for that true Gertrude Stein feel, you need one more repetition:
A rod is a rod is a rod is a rod.
But then, this hardly serves Stein's purpose. Perhaps if you did something more like:
A hug is a hug is a hug is a hug.
Cheers,

I'm continualy astonished that so many christians would give any creedence to any of the Pearls methods.
Quite apart from the abusive and extreme measures they espouse, their theology is heretical.
I wonder if the people that support their books would be happy to hear their own pastors teach the Pearls doctrines from the pulpit?

a word about spanking w/o any rod...
Posted by: mtnmama at April 8, 2006 03:06 PM
th5 has had two spankings in her life. these were swats on her clothed bum with no weapon. just enough to get her attention and i guess i use the idea as a threat now and then.
the other day i had th5 and a friend of hers in the car. overhearing their conversation sturck me deep. they were talking about monsters. th5- "mom says tell the monsters not to bother me and they HAVE to listen" s4 - "yeah. or we can capture them and spank them and cut their heads off"... they then pretended the toys in the car were monsters and i heard "spank spank spank"...
spanking was not seen as a corrective measure - is was the torture we do to bad things before we cut their heads off!
I'm a christian, I use the Pearls' materials, my kids are happy and obedient. So who are you to say the Pearls are wrong? You have a problem with them, it's obvious from your blog, and it's personal. You don't care about that kid that got killed, you care about making them look bad. Why don't you look up every abuse story there is and find out what caused it and boycott anything and everything you can?

***The first paragraph of this post appears as the author typed it. The second paragraph has been removed for the time being, because it was a personal attack on my sister. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle it, yet. --TulipGirl ***
