Pediatric Nurse Discards Babywise
We followed the advice on feeding and sleep schedules very closely, until my 5 week old son began failing to gain weight. Fortunately I am a pediatric nurse and noticed the early signs before his health was severely affected. I visited a lactation consultant and learned that my milk supply was almost gone. . .I dismissed the idea that his feeding problems could be related to the Babywise program (I don't know what I was thinking!) and continued with the program.
Read more from this pediatric nurse and former Babywise mom.
Several people influenced us in our decision to use the Ezzo parenting ideas--one was a NICU nurse. I trusted that the materials were medically sound because they were from her, even though they went against much of what I had learned about breastfeeding and early infant development before then.

Thanks for the information, I posted a link to this post in my blog to get the word out. I still know some Ezzo people... sigh

I pray that in the future there will be more websites such as Ezzo.info that will offer parents reasoned, thoughtful, information regarding various parenting philosophies.
Thank you, Tulip Girl.

I think my mother had me on something similar when I was young. She also listened to the "Cry it out" nonsense. She could not believe I would not take her advice and put Aiyana on a schedule, lol :-)

I am not familiar with Ezzo; I assume it advocates against breastfeeding on demand. This is very sad. There are so many "experts" out there urging parents not to honor their own nurturing instincts.

I just heard yesterday that some of our best friends back in Ohio (we're in SC) have already got their 3-week-old "on" a 4-hour schedule.
I don't think I could do 4 hrs. at age 26!
"Nurturing instincts" is a good way to put it, Steph. My wife seems to have lots of them, and they work okay so far for my 8-week-old. See our pics if you want at our blog.

This is a copy of a letter that was sent to me. After a few more emails I discovered that Evangeline and her husband Tom are the site administraters of www.ezzotruth.com. So you can see that deception is the norm with Gary Ezzo and his followers.
(my post, sept 30, 2005)
If this is your post, we would appreciate your help. We are going to original sources to get to the bottom of this story, and we need to find people who have first-hand information about what happened at Lakes Region. The more detail you can share, the better we will be able to piece both sides of the story together. Our aim is to compile a full and accurate history of the events surrounding the Ezzos and Lakes Region Christian Church. If you do not have the time or do not wish to help us with this, do you know anyone else who was there at the time whom we might be able to contact?
Thank you for your time,Sincerely,
Evangeline Reed
ANDHello Candy,
Actually we are friends of the Ezzos, and we are trying to make some sense out of all the differing characterizations of the Ezzos. We live in Texas. We have known them for over ten years. They do not know that we have contacted you. The information is really for our own edification to try and get a grip on all this. If the Ezzos have some unresolved conflict, we are trying to help the process to bring restoration. We are hoping that any information you provide will help the process. However, we have also seen a lot of mischaracterizations of the Ezzos. We want to get those cleared up as well. This information is not intended for public display. This information is private and will be used to help facilitate healing of any unresolved conflict. This is where the Lord has us at this point in our busy lives. It could be that there are some misunderstandings on both sides and we would love to see restoration occur all the way around. We hope you will help us and the Ezzos come to a greater understanding of your concerns, whatever they may be.

Candy,
And this was in response to when you posted here on September 30, 2005?
You posted was:
It's a shame to see that Gary Ezzo is still at it. My husband and I were involved in ministry with him at Lakes Region Christian Church and were the first ones to bring a Matthew 18 against him. At the time there was no resolution, so we left the church. Soon after, he was asked to leave. God's truth will always prevail! And yes, Tom and Evangeline Reed are spearheading the ezzotruth.com website.

You know what? Advice is great. Help is fantastic. But no one knows how one baby is going to differ from another. I have never heard of the Ezzos and only know of two parenting methods here in the UK, but I don't think that many parents follow a method at all.The best book I have read so far is by Jay Adams- Christian Living in the home. Not baby advice, but good solid child rearing advice, all biblical.

Reeds write: "if the Ezzos have some unresolved conflicts... it could be that there are some misunderstandings... help us and the Ezzos come to a greater understanding of your concerns...
Let's see... Ezzos were accountable to the elders at Lakes Region, that didn't work; Ezzos were accountable to their original GFI board, that didn't work; Ezzos were accountable to the elder board at Grace Community, that didn't work; Ezzos were accountable to the GFI VP's, that didn't work; Ezzos were accountable to their own children and sons in law, that didn't work; Ezzos were accountable to elders at Living Hope, that didn't work... but, Ezzos swear that they will be accountable to the Reeds. Who would have thunk it?!
Why didn't the other accountability alliances work? One reason, the accountability shattered and the relationships ended at the very moment the Ezzos' friends and family lovingly and gently presented to them concerns about their failed character.Dear Mr. and Mrs. Reed, if you promise to never speak to me or even suggest to me that I have sinned in any way, I will be accountable to you. With All Sincerity, Gary E
