Caught My Eye

These blog posts caught my eye this week. . .

Chewymom posted about choosing a more "natural" lifestyle from two sides of the same coin.

I saw Fred mention NRO's Top 50 conservative rock songs. I read through the list and started humming. The next morning, WMNF, our local liberal leaning community radio station played several of them. The DJ read off the reasons why some of his favorite songs were more conservative than he was.

Sparrow closed comments on her blog several months ago. And while I can understand and respect that, I miss commenting there! Like Sparrow, we've tended to be a bit disparaging towards Disney. But since the grandparents are planning on taking the kids this fall, I'm glad to hear that kids can enjoy it even if they've grown up disdaining Disney.

Disney's never been a big deal at our house either, so when we went to the Magic Kingdom for a couple of days last summer, the kids weren't interested in the costumed characters. Our focus was on the rides and attractions, which are really well done.

For example, your boys won't have to know anything about the movie Lilo and Stitch to think that the "Stitch's Great Escape" attraction is hilarious -- they'll want to do it again and again. Another one we did over and over again is Mickey's Philharmagic, a 3D movie with some other amazing special effects.

I remember thinking as we left the first day, "They think of everything here."

The Unofficial Guide to Disney by Bob Sehlinger is worth borrowing or buying before you go. By following its advice, we avoided spending too much time in line -- even got to ride Space Mountain without waiting.

Thanks for that suggestion! Like I said, I think the grandparents are planning on taking them to DW this fall. I am soooo slow paced in how I like to approach life, that I feel tense just thinking of Disney. Yet, at the same time, I have fond memories of a family vacation there when I was in 6th grade. . . Soo. . .

I miss your comments too.

We are so NOT the Disney poster-family, but we are glad we went. We took it VERY slow - missed half the rides everyone said we HAD to do - and just did what we wanted. Whenever we got overwhelmed, we grabbed a bottle of water and sat and people-watched. I tried to quit being superior about everything (*ahem*) and just join in the moments. I am glad we went ONCE. Don't think we'll rush back next year, though. :)
