When I Was A Kid. . .

When I was a kid, school didn't start until after Labor Day, and wrapped up right about Memorial Day.

The school district in which we reside begins classes Monday. In the city just north of us, school started last week.

Homeschooling, we're following a more traditional calendar. Not quite waiting until Labor Day, but we aren't starting Monday. It's still summerime here!

For those who live in Florida, here's a sample letter of intent to file with your school district, as required by Florida state law. Thanks to the Learning and Families homeschool group for providing it online.

I hear ya! In Arkansas school starts around Aug. 12-15 (or thereabouts) and finishes right at Memorial Day. Here in WA school starts right around Labor Day and doesn't get done till around June 15th!

Last WEEK? That's insane.

My daughter's school starts the 28th, which is still too early for me. I really could forgo a week-plus "Spring Break" and start a bit later, wrapping up around the same time, but alas, I don't get to set the district schedule.

But we'll start homeschool with the others then, sigh, to try to keep more or less on the same schedule. Actually, we've already started part-time to give ourselves some slack, but we'll start full-time every day schooling the last week of August.

I like the idea of easing into things, too, pentamom. I think that's our plan, as some of our "basics" are already gathered, but our full plans and supplies aren't yet here.

Hey, Keer--I've been trying out homeschool tracker, per your rave reviews. *grin* I think it will help a LOT. (I already put in the big field trip Hubby's planning with the boys in a few weeks. Parris Island, Charleston, the USS Yorktown. . . Unfortunately, I won't get to go.)
