Coffee with the Guys
Here we are at a local coffee shop, me and my two oldest boys. J9 is drinking a white chocolate mocha and reading a book about drawing comics, T8 is drinking iced coffee, light ice, heavy whip, and finishing HP4 and I'm drinking an extra-caffeinated blended coffee and finishing some homework on the laptop. It's peaceful. And it is amazing to have transitioned to a time in our family life in which we can hang out at a coffee shop and talk and read and just be together. . .

That is a sweet scene. Earlier this week, I took my three to my coffee shop hangout when mommy was having some time on her own. It was fun to show them off to people who only see me there writing my column, and it was good for them to meet some of the other grownups I interact with.

Sounds wonderful! I can't imagine that right now with my kids. I would be telling them to "hush", "sit down", or "we're leaving". :) Then again they are only 6, 5, 3, and almost 2! By the way, how far apart are J and T ?

Ah, Michael--so the coffee shop is a second office for you! Must have been the same for the man who was there long before we arrived and still typing away when we left. (And we were there a long time. . .)
Amy, it has been interesting. . . the transition from many little ones to older ones. It wasn't that long ago that mine were the ages of your children! J and T are 17 m apart, T and R are 15 m apart, and R and C are 23 m apart.

my kids (8 and 10) have become my two favorite human beings to do things with. i am relishing this time while they still think i am worthy to hang out with as well.

TG: What fun! I get my 2.5 year old a "short" cup with about an half inch of decaf and the rest filled with warm milk. We put a straw in it and she sips along with me. It's one of our favorite things to do together! She can't say her "s" or her "f" yet, so when she specially requests it, it's, "Mama we'll go get hum copee at Cape Cubana. You can get hum copee and I can get hum decap."

i'm jealous! Thst sounds so nice... when we go to coffeeshops, we spend the whole time chasing Deacon and trying to keep him from burning himself by spilling our coffee. It's nice to know that there will come a day that we can go to the coffeeshops again.
