A New Christmas Tradition

We've done something new this year, which I think I'd like to turn into a family tradition. I put a bunch of Christmas movies at the top of our Netflix/Blockbuster queue--both ones that we know are classics and ones which we've never seen. On the evenings Hubby has to work, the boys and I snuggle in bed and watch Christmas shows. Usually I drift off to sleep in the middle of the movie. . . We've watched classics like The Nutcracker and It's A Wonderful Life (with Hubby) and movies new to us like Holiday Inn, Christmas Past, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas Special.

I don't like doing too much TV time, but it's nice and cozy and snuggling in front of a movie is the Florida equivalent to cuddling in front of a fire. . .

That does sound nice! I tried to see what Christmas videos the library had--lots of Dora and Spongebob Christmas shows, etc. Not what I was looking for!

We are definitely into the Christmas movies here in Kyiv. Try Christmas in Connecticut if you're into the old black and white classics! Bishop's Wife (Cary Grant version). Original Miracle on 34th Street.

I've really, really enjoyed getting the movies from BB/NF, Erin. Do you think your library could get you the classics through interlibrary loan?

Thank you for the recommendations, Ukrainiac. One of the things I absolutely loved about Ukraine was the holiday season. First we had American Christmas, just for our family and American friends. Then we had New Year with our Ukrainian friends. Then Ukrainian Christmas with our Ukrainian church. Then old New Year--well, just because it's dark and depressing and cold and we weren't finished celebrating and partying!

Hello! Thank you for visiting my blog. :)

That sounds like such a nice tradition of cuddling up and watching movies. I think I'd like to start that when my husband heads off to OTS this coming year.

OOOHHH!!! What a great tradition!! I really like that - I'll have to remember that when mine get just a "tad" bit older. Is snuggling with the kiddos in the winter awesome?

What a cool idea... I would love to watch some of these movies, too!

Have a very blessed Christmas, TG, you and your family!

Sounds perfectly cozy to me. (especially the falling asleep part) 'It's a Wonderful Life' is a tradition for us for sure, and also the Muppet's Christmas Carol.

You are bringing back memories of Christmas in Florida for me. I have a friend in Lakeland whose family has a tradition of going water skiing on Christmas day. Don't think I'll be doing that up here in chilly Maryland.

And Merry Christmas to you and all of yours!

Oh now that IS cozy. I'm constantly thinking of ways that we can celebrate Christmas, especially as my child gets older. That's now on the list!
